Tax "Off the Road"

I got a fine by a traffic warden for no tax in March. Car was out of tax since January. I'm thinking about going in and getting tax form stamped by guards for being of the road, anytime I did they never carried out a check. Anyone know if the tax office will accept the form stamped by the guards or will they check up as well themselves?

You're asking us if you should make a false declaration?

    Did you pay the fine?

if you do make a false declaration it is a crime

if you do it when it is likely you will get caught you are an idiot

No **** Sherlock... I'm asking does anyone know if the tax office check up for any fines as well even if u hand in a stamped form cause most of the time guards in the local station never do a check when they r supposed to.

It will be in the system that you were caught driving an untaxed vehicle, so to try and get away with making a fasle declaration is foolish in the extreme. You are breaking the law, something you obviously do on a regular basis. If you can't afford to run a vehicle, get rid of it.
Then again, you could just be taking the pi** and like getting a rise out of strangers by writing such tripe.

I can honestly say ive never used the off the road loophole however I know that if there is official documentation showing your car on the road, you would want to be a fool to then make a declaration statibg otherwise.
I know of a guy who was pulled in for doing a bit of drifting on a roundabout in his home town where he was well known to gardai. He then went into gardai a week later to declare off road. He ended up in court over that but he had to be a special class of idiot to do what he did.

Because gards are not supposed to check it.

If anyone is to check it, it will be motor tax office.

Well I love the way a stranger like yourself felt so obliged to make a comment on this. If you feel it's "tripe" then be a good lad and butt out where your opinion isn't needed it. I asked a general question if the tax office also carried out a check as the guards also do a check but a lot of the time just sign the form. Have the money to tax the car but not enough to backdate to January which I know is my fault.

all the Gard is doing is witnessing your signature. False declarations are serious

I dont help people defraud the state. I hope nobody else helps you with this either and if you do this, I hope you get caught.

The guard is only witnessing you making a signed declaration. His job is not to check whether the declaration is the truth or not. A common misconception btw.
I heard that guards sometimes do make checks but that's on their own account if they do.

The motor tax office will check however.

Everybody knows about the off the road loophole. To use it if you came in contact with the authorities while supposedly off the road would be quite foolish.
More than likely you will get pulled on it but I do not know how serious it is. I imagine it is quite serious and more expensive than just paying the tax.

Posts that encourage drivers to break the law e.g. telling people to make false motor tax declarations may result in either an infraction or a banning.
Similar punishment will be awarded to those who request such advice.
