Renting for the Academic Year

Just leaving Trinity Halls with two friends soon and we're hoping to rent an apartment from September to June. Would be grateful for some advice from those who've already gone through the process. Is it likely to get a 9 month lease rather than 1 year? When does everything go up online, seems to be very little at the moment... Also, is there anyplace else I should check apart from let.ie, my home.ie etc. Should I contact individual letting agents or does everything get put up online?

Starting to feel a bit worried and since my friends and I won't be in Dublin for the summer this needs to get sorted asap!

Daft.ie and rent.ie are good sites to check, pretty much everything goes up on those. But there's not much up at the moment because everyone is still living in their student accommodation! Give it a month and there'll be plenty of places. But most people don't sort their accommodation till August, there's not much point looking now if you only want to pay rent from September - a landlord is not going to hold a place for that long.

I've never had a problem getting nine/ ten month leases. The websites usually have 12 month lease on it, but don't let that put you off, I find landlords are willing to go with a shorter lease once you get talking to them.

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately none of us will in the country in August... If we were to get a 12month do you know if its reasonable to expect to sublet?

You should be able to work out a suitable contract with the landlord if you are renting student accommodation!
