Failed Modules and Average

    I was just wondering...

If you fail a module but pass on repeat, do both the fail grade and the pass grade contribute to your overall average, or just the pass grade?

I've heard that only the pass grade counts towards your average.
While this benefits me greatly, it seems pretty unfair.
You would be better off to fail outright and do well on your repeat than scrape a pass in the first sitting.

Depending on what college you're in, your marks in a repeat exam may be capped at 40%. I know the college of science do this (or at least used to). I've no idea about the other colleges.

I'm in the college of science. Repeats were capped up until two years ago, but not anymore.

We're pretty much rewarded for failing...

Have you had this confirmed by the department that repeats are not capped ? I've asked everywhere and received a variety of answers. I was always under the impression a repeat exam was capped at 40%??

Science Geek, I contacted the college of science directly and they confirmed that they no longer cap repeats.

"No exams are capped at 40% this year. This rule did apply 2 years ago but no longer exists."
