Netflix on a blu ray player

Hi

I recently bought this blu ray player

It has a network/Ethernet port and it indeed connects to my network. I have updated the software already.

It's network apps only have picassa, YouTube and accu weather and yes I knew this before I bought it ; )



My question is ; Is there any way that I could get netflix on this blu ray player ?

Like download something on to a USB, insert the USB and install netflix like this.

Don't think so, it has a very limited catalog of apps as you already know. See discussion here.....

Get a cheap 12GB PS3 for £129 on Amazon and get a Bluray player builtin and a full gaming system. If you find you use it for more than Netflix, you can then upgrade to a big hard drive.

Download more stuff without deleting old stuff. Recommend a 1TB drive. Bisto. I have EVERY PS+ game downloaded, among other downloads. Still have buckets of space left.

However, the small 12GB is perfect for media player.

It's a games console that can play normal DVDs and blu ray discs and you just hook it up to your tv via HDMI.



It also has "apps " on it by default. Not sure if you can buy apps ?
Is the game console itself wireless or does it depend on the model.

It has game controller joy pads - are these wireless ?

PS3 is wired and wireless [all models]
Controller is wireless [bluetooth]
Apps? I guess so. Netflix, Youtube, Music Unlimited, RTE Player. If you have a UK account, you can get BBC Player, UK Player , LoveFilm, etc.

Don't think of it as a games machine. It's an entertainment station.

• It can play games.
• It can play digital [soft] / DVD / Bluray movies
• It can play digital [soft] / CD music
• It can show pictures [individual and slideshow]
• It has a web browser but you will never use it
• It has a video editor built in so you can customise your home movies right there.
• It can stream videos from your network [via DLNA] although you won't want to stream HD wirelesly. This is a wireless issue, not PS3 one.
• It has what's called, Playstation Home. It's a sort of 3D social Network where you can walk around and chat and stuff... Sort of.
• It has Playstation Plus. If you get a PS3, you should also get PS+. It's €50~ a year and gives you plenty of cool stuff. Think of it as perpetual game renting without much commitment. If you get this, also get your 1TB Hard Drive
• I probably missed one or two things.

Which is cheaper - Xbox or ps3 ?

if netflix is your thing then ps3 is cheaper. You have to purchase xbox live, yearly, to do any online stuff.

PS+ is optional. Online stuff still works if you don't subscribe .

Some of them seem to be 2007 and 2008 etc models.
Would a PS2 even fulfil my needs ?

If your basic needs are netflix then go with the 12gb model. Ps2 doesn't do internet.... generally.

Thanks. On the blu ray I have it's very slow. When I select something it takes ages for it to do stuff. Especially when I try and use YouTube ...... And I have a wired connection that's fast.

Is the ps 3 also slow like this when selecting stuff ?

Find the ps3 very responsive in the menu.

Operationaly, they are very similar. Newer models consume less electricity, for example. The 12gb is the latest (and cheapest) iteration. It does everything the others do, just with less space . Leaving backwards compatability out of it. None of the retail units do that anymore.
