Trainee spray painter wanted to do cheap work!

    Hi, I have a car valued at about 600 euro, I actually like the car but hate the colour (silver). As it is valued so low, its not remotely worth paying to have it sprayed to a colour I do like, but would someone do this to gain experience for a smallish fee? I would want it done well, but its not an absolute disaster if its not top notch! I could sell for parts and buy another (worst case scenario!) This might be a most ridiculous request but for someone out there, we might both get what we want!

    Try your local FAS centre.

    You might be better off selling it and buying another one in the colour you like.

    For an even halfway presentable job it will be what your car is worth at least.

    They're nearly all silver! Colour range is quite poor. Its a 406 coupe and this way I can get a colour not from the original range. Maybe I'm trying to get something on the cheap that should cost good money usually, but the value of the car just doesnt warrant it. Its a 2000 car so could give up at any time so spending big money on non mechanical items wont prolong its life. Maybe the FAS option would work, never know. I get mad ideas sometimes

    What sort of price? If you have €100 to spend you could wrap it.

    Best bet on a crap car is this:

    http://www.smithandallan.com/prodpage.aspx?id=1568

    About €20 a litre and goes on with any old gun or even a paintbrush. You can get decent results. I have seen a Corolla done in it, and it wasn't a bad job by any means.

    I would suggest Massey Ferguson Red, or any colour of any machine you see here:

    If they need to gain experience they won't have the facility to use me thinks.

    Also loads of the work is in the prep :)

    Colour change is a disaster tbh, door shuts etc etc etc, do it really cheap and it will look really sh1t.

    I've looked at www.carwrapdirect.com, some great things achievable, especially the silver carbon interiors. To be honest I'm a little bit bored and want a little project. I might give it a try, looks to be all reversible anyway. Dont want it to turn out chavvy though. I reckon a 406 coupe could turn out fantastic, its still a good looking car even if its out of production 10 years

    Some places were charging a grand when it first started off! Its worth paying for decent wrap but you can do it yourself for €80 wrap and €20 tools.

    I would imagine that some cars would be easy to do, but take my FTO, facelift. It would be a nightmare to do. All the curving bulges and recesses on the bumper alone would totally put me off a DIY wrap.

    I'm convinced! I'm going to give it a go, sure if I make a balls of it I can just take it off. What colour do you guys reckon for a 406 coupe? It will be either white or red

    If you're looking for a real change you should go for red. But why not do the chrome gold or something?

    I'll give it a try - sounds like people can do this themselves just need a lot of patience and be careful. Have to try new things sometimes.

    +1 for the before and after pics.

    I think the 406 looks good in Blue

    Of white or Red I would choose Red. Best of luck with the project

    OP, you have a cheap alternative that you could do yourself;

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=67122435

    Here's the original thread that really took off;

    http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2331682&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1

    The results are pretty amazing.

    Hmm ... I wonder if there's a vinyl applications workshop that would do a wrapping job without charging too much? Materials wouldn't be much right?

    I like my car but never liked its colour, and besides the paintjob is messed up anyway.
