    Giant Defy 2

    Allez Elite Grey

    Allez Elite Yellow

I'd like some completely biased, shallow subjective opinions on the bikes above, because really that's what it comes down to in the end isn't it.

I've been hankering after something matte black, but that yellow allez is calling to me..

The Grey Allez by a mile for me, don't like the other two at all looks-wise. The Defy's finish is a bit too shiny, although I think the Tiagra crankset looks cool.

    They all have lovely bottoms

Grey Allez. Yellow would be good, but you would have to keep it spotless or it would look abused :)

Grey Allez by a country mile

Yellow Allez. Dark and monochrome for cars, colourful bling for bikes. :)

Get the yellow one. We can't appreciate the nice bikes as much until we see other people riding around on munthers.

No contest - grey Allez. I've yet to see a nice looking Giant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 275 ✭✭Joxer_S

The yellow would demand either the farnese vini kit or this to go with it, then lets see that guard get on to me for not having a high vis on

Grey Allez. Giant looks like their hybrids.

    Grey allez

Allez yellow. It would go lively with denim cut offs and a maillot juane

Yellow allez by a MILE. Grey is fine. The giant is one fugly bike. Agree that giants tend to look crap, whatever their all round quality.

    By 0.63 MILE you mean.

    We use kilometres around here!

They seem to try and make the Defy look absolutely as unaggressive and unsporty as possible. I've started following Giant on Youtube, and I think their current marketing campaign is to try to be the Oprah of cycling. Don't get me wrong, Giant bikes are good (I have 2), but I absolutely hate their styling and marketing.

What's your budget? If it was me I'd look at a Scott - giant and specialized are everywhere!

Joxer, as your friend, and fellow design professional, I am ashamed of your "beauty" contest. I refuse to vote. Consider me a conscientious objector.

The Defy is the best bike but also - possibly - the ugliest. A friend bought the cheaper Defy 3 in black and it's a nice looking machine. I saw the model you link to above in the shop and it looks even worse in the flesh metal alloy. And, continuing the subjective theme, I don't like the blocky Tiagra crankset either - it looks like they make it ugly on purpose so that you'd upgrade to 105.

Another subjective opinion: I don't like Specialized, but the grey one is the best looking of the 2 you link to above. The yellow one would be grand if you are a hairdresser I suppose ;)

If you have €1K to spend and you like black and yellow, might I suggest this machine: Canyon AL 6.0 (link)

Speaking on behalf of Joxer, he lives in Boston, so the Canyon's not an option. Do Rose deliver to the States?

Speaking on behalf of Joxer, he lives in Boston,

In that case he should probably just wander around to his neighborhood dealership and pick up one of these.

    :pac:

Is there a none of the above option?

Canyon roadlite for me if it was my money

    Agreed, Canyon if I could.

The black defy is a significant improvement alright.

But Dave, the yellow would match my replica tour de france jersey, surely that is reason enough.

Oh sh*t yeah, I never thought of that... Sure go for it so.
