Hi all, this is my first post on Board's. I have being reading posts here and Googling on what martial art would be the most beneficial for me to get into (not the fittest person in the world given i'm a smoker, but hopefully not for long). I'm not too pushed on the contact sports like mma or bjj as i'm guessing they're full-on and intense, although I suppose it's possible like other martial arts that it could be a gradual step by step thing, but I personally prefer to learn something along the lines of karate, ninjutsu or kung-fu.

I have always wanted to get into martial arts but kept putting it off for one reason or another, finally I decided to just try something out, and am now doing a beginner course in Kung-Fu and Chinese kick-boxing.

The instructor, Master Dong has recently started doing classes on the northside of Dublin (O'Connell St) and has asked to spread the word, so here I am! He does other disciplines of martial art like tai-chi and self-defence, and it's cheap.

I don't know how to create a link to the website, but for anyone interested it's shaolinkungfuacademy.net. I am a student, encase anyone is thinking otherwise!! He is also planning a trip to China, which includes training with monks in the Shaolin Temple, which would be cool. Unfortunately for me I won't be going as I am unemployed.

P.S. I tried putting the web-address in a different colour or even in bold text, I highlighted the text and all I got was letters on either side (WTF). I must be worse than I thought using computers (if only everything was in a word document).

Welcome to the MA & SD forum.

Technically it's against the rules of this forum to start an account just to promote a club. I'd suggest you try taking part in some regular conversations before you go posting links for your club and recruiting people for trips to China.

    Hi MR.Cartel.
The reasons why I wrote what I did was to inform those who had been looking into doing some type of martial art. My apologies if my excitement got the better of me when talking about a trip to China (i actually cut back on what i originally wrote, as i was rambling a bit) I am not looking to recruit anyone!! Having read previous blogs from people asking about classes in certain area's, I was simply trying to provide information, so it was not a tit-for-tat kinda situation (one person asks a question, then a response, then someone else asks another question, then a response etc.).

To be honest I have contemplated signing up to Boards before, but when I had a question to ask, I had found an answer from other posts. I never really had a reason to post anything before now. I have also noticed a number of posts that weren't much different to mine, yet nothing was said. I did have a go reading the T&C's but got bored! I'm not big on blogging (i posted a blog on LFC's website a few months ago, haven't posted anything since, even if i have something to say, laziness gets the better of me). I'm not on facebook or twitter, but I will give my tuppence worth in response to blogs of interest every once in a while, weather they have anything to do MA & SD or not. Sharing is caring!!

You can post a link to your blog if you want, assuming it's vaguely martial arts related.

If you have any further queries about the rules for this forum, they are available here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055797135. There's not that many, it'll only take you 5 mins at most to read them.

    Hi Doug,
Does this mean I can only post blogs that are martial arts related, can I not for example comment on a post on the music forum in relation to a say a new album someone has been talking about?

P.S. I've read the Forum Charter cheers.

If you want to post about music, you should do that in the music forum. (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=20) If you want to talk about a particular genre or aspect of music then one of it's sub forums may be more appropriate.

Please restrict your posts on this forum to martial arts related subjects.

I think this thread has run its course and I'm going to close it now.
