Anyone got a recommendation where to get a single axle braked trailer with a GVW of around 1300kg, ideally 6x4.

Ifor do one to suit but new is too expensive and a second hand one is next to impossible to find.

Have checked dondeal but most single axles are un-braked home-made jobs.

why are looking for a single axle one? a twin axle one would be esier on the car and on the man putting it on and off. I think there might be a weight restriction on trailers of that size and that older trailers were under the old limit hence no brakes

most twin axle are all up around 2000Kg plus, I have one but have been pulled twice by a friendly man in blue about it and not having the correct license, never have had more than 600-750kg in it anyhow bar one trip to the dump where i was shocked myself as to how much I had in it.
Most 750kg unbraked trailers i find a bit jittery behind the car with a good load in it and i agree double axle is better for my back and the car. I have gotten a price from Castle trailers but was wondering how available they are. Might just stick with the one i have.

Where are you going with a single axle? I can't see a single thing to recommend it TBH.

what kind of car/van/jeep have you pulling it and what have you in teh trailer?

It depends on what your pulling and with what. The ordinary license is ok once the car pulling the trailer is hevier then the trailer and its cargo, and the whole weight (car+trailer+cargo) is under 3500kg.

Would it not be cheaper to get the licence?

An avensis, 1300-1400gvw would keep me under the 3.5t and on a B license.

Think I will keep the double axle and see what happens, I should have a +E license and also a bigger vehicle for the current trailer to keep things in order but
    sure that is life.

    Thanks for the replies.

Trailer is 2.2t, with an BE can you have a trailer with a gvw that exceeds the gvw of the vehicle pulling it?

    To answer my own question,
If you have a Category EB licence, you may:

Tow an O2 trailer, with a vehicle with a DGVW of up to 3.5 tonnes and seating for up to 8 passengers (apart from the driver), provided that the GVW of the trailer does not exceed the manufacturer’s rated towing capacity for the towing vehicle.

So even with an EB i "shouldn't" use the trailer I have as my trailer exceeds the towing capacity of the car.

Thanks lads, will leave it and see what happens. Sorry for the bother.

getting the test is a complete mess. went about doing it about 2/3 years ago. I need to have a 4wd and trailer but not my 4wd and trailer it has to be one supplied by the testing centre. i asked about getting a provisional to be able to pratcice but no-one seemd to know what i can and cat do. the RSA and testign centre have different systems and no one seems to be able to give a proper reson. typical irish solution to an irish problem.

I've heard such stories allright, I did it about 4 years ago and there was no such hassle.
