Plasma overall, but a good plasma with the same good features as an LED seems to be dearer.

If i had the funds, a Panasonic Plasma would be where i would put my money.

However LEDs are cheaper, and are better in very bright rooms, plamas can be harder to see in very bright rooms.

    CRT all the way

^ CRT still beats LED in color gamut....but we're getting closer all the time, probably take a few more generations though. OLED is promising.....but anything above 42" is massively expensive.

Eventually prices will come down, i love the new tellys because they do alot more now then watch telly, SMART ftw!

    This entirely depends on
    1. What price range your looking at
    2. What features you want.
    3. When you buy.

This time last year i was in the market for a 42" Full HD TV.

At the time after browsing shops and reading up online reviews on reliability, i decided to either go with a particular sony LED model or Panasonic Viera Plasma model.

Both coming with 5 year part and labour warranties, similar features, the sony was €100 cheaper.
The price range i was looking in was from 600 to 800 .
Honestly if the Plasma was cheaper at the time i would of went with it. I do notice alot of the plasmas that are in the same price range as the LEDs are HD ready not Full HD

It should be noted that panasonic closed their plasma R&D department and are widely expected to stop producing plasmas next year, with OLED R&D taking the lead.

LEDs tend to use less power from what I've seen, giving a lower overall cost of ownership.

Videophiles and movie fans tend go with Plasma, the picture quality is inherently better. The current generation of Panasonics are considered to be basically the finest TVs ever made.

An LCD is brighter and uses less power, so is a good choice for daytime viewing or a kids TV that is going to be on all day watching cartoons.

Also, Plasma is far better for gaming.

 plasma burn-in not an issue, re; static images.

LED TV. Hands down much better. Newer technology and will last much longer.

Not really an issue anymore. Unless you're spending decent money most LCD tvs - LED is the lighting tech - aren't great for the likes of high speed gaming e.g. COD etc.

LED isnt new technology at all really, they just changed in from a cfl bulb to led lights for the backlighting.
    They both use LCD panels.

OLED will be the next worthy upgrade imo

    plasma
I've a Panasonic plasma and it's great. Much prefer plasma to lcd. Agree that LCD is not great for fast motion; especially at larger sizes.

I have one of these and the picture quality is amazing. That's what I was going for when I researched it before buying, just wanted the best possible picture for blu rays etc. The 'motion blur' effect you sometimes get on LCDs would drive me insane.

LCDs are also far too bright, generally, for my taste. TVs generally are set too 'way too bright' store demo modes when they are on the floor of Power City or wherever - make sure you reset the picture contrast, sharpness etc. to a reasonable level when you get the TV set up at home, both for a picture closer to what the film director intended, and also because it is way less tiring on the eyes.

I don't think that Apple will ever make a TV, there is not enough profit in them, I do believe that they will come out with a new Apple TV, the box you attach to your tv. It has been well over a year since the last one, so I suspect there will be a new one, before the Autumn.

I would mention that the sound on my Panasonic plasma is nothing special. I just got a good amp and set of speakers to address that though. The picture is great.

Oh right. A few weeks ago a guy who apparently had got some scoops on Apple before said he had been talking to some of their suppliers in the Far East and the Apple tv would be out before the end of the year. Said it would be controlled by an 'iRing', which sounded a bit fishy, and it was suspiciously close to April 1.

Sony have just brought out a 4K tv in America for around, well, $5K. A bit out of my range, but if it was to come down a couple of K I'd seriously consider it...

You can get a 4k TV in the US for $1,500. Not sure of the quality, but it is a lot of pixels for the money. I never heard of the brand before "Seiki". I think I'd wait for one of the major brands to drop in price.

I had noticed that too but was thinking the same as you about the brand. Have heard doubts expressed about 4K as well, guys pointing out there's very little specific content out for it (and questioning whether you'd really notice much difference watching regular blu rays or whatever on 4K) and suggesting you really need an 80-90 inch screen to really feel the effect.

Really sorry about all the reallys.

If I was offerred a 4k led or a HD OLED, I'd choose the OLED every time. (Still waiting for some one to offer me either.)
It will be a long time before there is a good supply of quality 4k content.
