Insurance on 2 cars (No NCB on 2nd car ?)

I have insurance at the moment with a well known Irish insurance broker. Been with them now for about 3 or 4 years I'd say.

Never had an accident in that time and I have a maximum no claims discount of 6 years. Anyways, the plan was to insure my new car for the full year and cancel my old policy once my old car has been sold.

Gave them a ring and it turns out even though I have 6 years no claims discount, this NCB cannot apply to a 2nd car I am insuring with them. How does this make any sense.

They know I'm a safe driver, they know I have 6 years no claims and yet they are forcing me to have 0 years no claims on the 2nd policy. Is this correct or is this just a misunderstanding. I cannot fathom how this is correct.

Its correct but some companies will consider mirrored NCB on a second car. Ring around.

Problem is that my insurance on the old car isn't up until August.

The only way I could do that is to cancel my current policy on car 1 and move to a different company who would mirror the NCB.

Do some companies mirror NCB even if you don't have a current policy with them but want to insure the second car with them?

Unlikely, both policies usually have to be with the one company for this benefit
