Advice on bar/retail work in Dublin

Starting a course in Dublin over the summer in the next few weeks and looking for some advice.

I've been back in Ireland since Christmas and I have applied for hundreds of jobs in my or related to my area of expertise online but no luck. Also signed up with few temp agencies. Left a few CV's around campus too.

I'll be travelling up to Dublin 2-3 days a week and a part time job would make a huge difference.

I haven't got much experience in bar work, I've done glass collecting in a few places years back and I've never worked a till. Plenty of customer service experience though.

I'm going to try get a day or two in a local pub to train me up and then hit as many pubs and shops doors in Dublin as I can. I'm not really sure where to start though.

Any advice or places you'd recommend leaving in CV's?

There is plenty of bar work in Dublin, lots of places looking for floor/bar staff. I would call into a few places with your CV, ask for the manager and have a face to face chat. Money isn't great, basically minimum wage but tips make the difference. Places that do food tend to be better for tips. Don't want to put you off but be prepared for long hours and sore feet !

That's encouraging. I'm prepared to work long hours for minimum wage as I know how tough it is out there. I will probably look for barback/glass collecting work but I'll take what I can get. I'm guessing I won't walk into a bartending job so I will try work my way up. Now to print a 100 CV's :D

Does anybody have any places in particular they would recommend in the city centre? Or places they wouldn't recommend?
