Hi, I am 20 and have been smoking Amber Leaf daily for about a year now.

Now that the holidays are coming up, I want to quit cold turkey.

Doe anyone have any advice on doing this without going crazy and being moody towards people? Or would I have to use nicotine patchs or e-cigarettes?

Gave up last year when I was 20,I didnt really plan on giving up. Ended up in the local GP's waiting room and started flicking through those "give up smoking" leaflets and started browsing the net checking out how harmfull it is and how quickley your body can recover once you give up. It was a no brainer..im now running 12 miles every saturday morning and wouldnt ever really miss them (occasionaly with a few pints on board). Cold turkey is the only way.

    PS I smoked drum

Cig free 2 years!im 28.. Went cold turkey aswell but you have too REALLY want too quit n not just be doing it for the sake of it!

Good tip too do is put away 5/10 euro depending how much you used smoke EVERY DAY into a tin that you can't open with out cutting up and when your off them a month you'll have nearly 300/600 quid take the money n go blow it on something you like...drink/meals/clothes etc that will spur you on the following month!

Try whyquit.com - it is all about cold turkey and helps a lot of people. I am off them nearly three months now- was smoking 20/25 a day and just stopped. the first few days are hard enough with cravings but they soon pass.

I went cold turkey a few years back i had become pregnant so that was the reason and great motivation to stop straight away. I think looking at that ad were the smoke turns into a tumor would have put me off for life! If i was smoking now and wanted to give up i would you tube those ads when i felt the urge.

sorry if i take this up wrong

if your only smoking a year
you should be able to quite no problem :) you wont have as much withdraw
    if youve been smoking longer
id go with smoking an ecig as it helps alot (i still smoke) but it does help, my friend whos has been smoking 8 years hasnt had a smoke in 8 months and all she does is smoke the ecig
    so much more healthier

If you've not already heard about it, try the book Allen Carr Easy Way To Stop Smoking. It is possible to quit cold turkey but it helps to get your frame of mind in the right place to prevent all of the psychological withdrawal symptoms. Anyhow, the withdrawals are far less to worry about that the thought of becoming a life long smoker and all the health problems that come with it..

I started smoking when I was 14 (I am now 21) I manage to quit smoking for 4 months straight with the help of a quit.now app that I downloaded for Andriod. Worked well up until I was due to sit exams and the pressure of studying got to me and those 5 minutes smoking time was heaven because I could have time to think on my own. That was in January and it's now June and I still haven't shifted them. No sorry, I went off them for a week last week and myself and my boyfriend decided to go to a pub and like i said those 5 minutes on my own cropped up and before I knew it, I was buying smokes. I have never craved a smoke in my life, ever. I usually just smoke either out of boredom, pass time or just to be on my own or waiting on a bus before and after work. I treasure the time I smoke when waiting on a bus. I don't work in a stressful environment so it's not like I NEED a smoke after work. Lord only knows why. Those 4 months that I gave up was a bliss. No sore chest, no heaviness. I felt fresh waking up. I was able to walk up the stairs and run for 20 minutes (that's a record for me) Now the taught of running frightens me because I know I will only embarrass myself if I can't run for long. I gave my last packet of smokes (had 15 left) to a homeless man on my way home and I just taught "it's not worth the hassle anymore". The minute payday comes, I buy smokes before anything else and I am puffing away. Smoking away hard earned money.

I know the feeling shamrock, went trough all my bags and coats one day- thankfully found nothing, also when I'm on my after dinner walk( does help) am looking at the ground for a half used one, normally don't see any but did today and kept walking ( am day 16 and NRT but still look)

Ask herself to keep her smokes in her bag for the next few weeks
