Cocaine usage amongst farmers.

I was reading a letter in the FJ about a mother who has discovered that her son is using cocaine. Very sad when a member of your family becomes reliant on drugs as a means of coping with stress. There is a betrayal of trust that can be hard to win back.

I was wondering if drug use is common amongst farmers here. I don't mean alcohol, that brings huge problems. I am curious to know if people here have siblings or friends who use drugs on a regular basis also. I used to be a heavy drinker in my 20s but don't bother much anymore. I smoked the occasional joint, but that was it.

    Anyone?

I say Cocane use is a often a serious problem from march -may,you can see the results of it when you go to the marts. This year it is not as bad as other years.

    is the pope a catholic?

Never done much myself, but wouldnt harley consider blow a drug nowadays as nearly everyone is puffing it. Think speed would be my drug of choice to keep going but again never tried it. still plenty of people on coke and you wouldnt have to be going far to find it.

I know a man if anyone is interested :)

I know of a 'farmer' who was smuggling ectasy tablets inside cows. He was bringing them in at night and putting the drugs into them. Moving them the next day by lorry.
I see his place is up for sale now. CAB took everything off him. Drugs squad were waiting for him one night in the bushes. Funny thing is, I know guys that bought calves off him regurly.
I often thought about growing cannabis myself. I heard it's a great cash crop. It would fit in nicely with my re-seeding programme.

The normal dealer makes very little money overall.

Back a few years ago there were a few tradies, that i was sitting in a pub with. it was height of recession talk when a lad who would be known to sell "stuff" interjected with how badly it was hitting him too. One of the lads replied with how the f*k would it affect you? his reply was that since the recession all his coke customers that were mainly office types in their late 20's to early 30's were all spent out and couldnt afford it, due to maxed out credit cards and mortgages they couldnt cope with.
I have a wide variety of friends from various backgrounds and farming and coke dont seem to go hand and hand. Gaa is great at keeping boys round my way occupied, most dont even smoke and even with that we cant win an all ireland (before all the smart comments).
The lads that i see doing it are mainly the office boys and theres a couple from round here caught in jobs they hate who would be known to dabble a bit. Farmers tend to have a different attitude to what they get their kicks out of.

Of all types of people I would never have put farmers down as cocaine users , if they think the price of fodder is bad can you imagine what the price of coke would do to them ?:D

There is a good book about drug use in Ireland I think its called High Society

Bob I know a couple of people that use speed (I think effergins they call them anyhow ) they are on the go alright but after a few years I have noticed the head is going scattered with them and they are only chasing their tails .

Rang the neighbour there one Saturday night to pull a calf, an elderly man, well in his 70's. No snow No show says he. Off to town I'd to go, to hit up the crack hoes an score him some Charlie.
    Farming eh! :-)

Heard of a contractor down southwest region in the 80's who every spring would get a prescription for tablets from doctor to keep him going. Can only presume it was speed (think it was allowed as a slimming drug). Anyway he had 2 crews on the machines and he drove the chopper nearly all the time.
