Following on from a different thread I’m looking at buying a racer instead of a hybrid/commuter bike. Budget around €1000ish. From talking to a few people at that money most bikes are good.Carbon forks is definitely something I’ll be going for but not sure on the other components.

Also I’m looking at buying in the bikestore Kilkenny. Has anyone any experience of this shop. I’m flexible where I buy so I can easily go to Limerick/Cork/Dublin but want somewhere that will give good advice and a good deal.

Hi no experience of bikes store Kilkenny but sure there will be plenty from people here. Can't really beat Kilmallock cycles in limerick on price and same goes for advice- I've used shops in limerick and cork and always go back to him , owner was a good racer in his day and can still put manners on fellas in the mountains.

For a grand you should get carbon forks, for a groupset I'd aim for minimum of tiagra but you may get lucky and get 105 or a mixture ( I'm not even mentioning campy :)]. Are you big fella or small fella? If you struggle in hills because your big a triple can be helpful , I sometimes regret not having one but you can compensate with a forgiving cassette.

Daragh in BikeStore Kilkenny is friendly and a mate of mine in our club recently bought a bike there. It was ordered specially for him as it wasn't a brand stocked. Currently he is delighted with his purchase.

+1 for the bikestore in Kilkenny. Bought a Cube Acid MTB there a few months ago, and threw in mudguards, helmet, pump, water carrier and bottle, and pouch with spare tube and repair kit.
