plumbing a simple compressed air workshop system

    Hi folks

I am hoping someone on here can give me some tips and advice. I have a small 12' X 18' workshop that I want to set up a simple compressed air system in. I would want to use a 1/2" drive impact drill and spray gun etc.

I've a decent fini compressor with good sized tank, but I want to put a simple bit of solid piping on the wall with air regulator water traps etc to get as much water out of system as possible. I'm thinking 1 outlet would be adequate. I have purchased a retractable hose reel also.

I intend to place the compressor on the far side of a wall in an adjoining shed.

What type of piping/fittings should I use and where can they be got? And could someone please put up or explain WHERE everything should go and a drawing for pipework. I hope to be able to do all this myself.

    Thanks!

    Muckit

    Howdy,
I've got a similar system as yourself, but I though solid pipe seemed too much like hard work so I used flexible hose with one reg and water combined unit to a retractable reel.

It's easy to fit up, from outlet on comp to regulator wherever you want it and then to reel, hose clamps on the hose connections and Bob's your uncle!

I used a local supply shop who were very helpful, as I knew nothing about air lines, they even had a recon tyre inflator and pressure gauge. I'm on the east coast so can't help you with suppliers in your neck of the woods but I'm sure someone will know.

I've had this in place for five years with no probs at all, with a 1/2 " impact gun it almost makes changing plough points fun!

French Canadian guy, lots of info on chainsaw/small petrol engine repairs. This video is about his garage airline set-up.

Get yourself down to Caufields on the Tuam Road. They have everything. I could write a book on compressed air layouts .... oh wait, I did!

For what the likes of you and I need at home you need a 200 litre tank with a 2 or 3 hp single phase motor, a basic regulator set at 7 bar, a water trap, good quality rubber hose with proper two stage couplers.

    Sorted

PS. ..... dont bother with steel piping. Its so naff
