Would this list comprise most of what Accounts Assistant would be expected to know

    • Create Purchase Invoice, Debit and Credit Notes .Post invoice
    • Post Cheques and direct debits to Creditor ac
    • Payments: Schedule cheque runs by cheque and bank transfer
    • Ensure authorisation, allocation of all payments
    • Post Receipts- for cash, cash cards and credit cards
    • Create Provisions e.g. Bad Debt Provision
    • Loan repayments
    • Supplier Reconciliation
    • Expenses and Journal entry of expenses
    • Accruals and Prepayments
    • General Ledger enteries
    • Month end procedure for all ledgers
    • Tax: VAT, Paye Monthly returns, VIES, Intrastat, ROS returns
    • Cash Account Mgt
    • Reconcile Balance Sheet using Blackline reconciliation software
    • Maintain Fixed Asset Register including depreciation
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Accounts Payable and Receivable
    • Bring accounts to trial balance
    • Update credit and debit card transactions into Card Reconciliation file
    • Update Sterling and Euro cheque into cash flow file
    • Cashflow report
    • Supplier Payment Due Report
    • Company credit card reconciliation

    Based on my experience of accounts assistants that list would be for a pretty good one. The cashflow and being able to be self reliant would normally be an issue for an accounts assistant. They normally need help and direction. That list above I would expect for a Assistant Accountant rather than an Accounts Assistant. Obviously it would depend on the organisation as to what is normally expected. An accounts assistant

    You are more in the territory of a company accountant with that list. At the very least an assistant accountant as said above. An accounts assistant may struggle with some of the duties as they would have less formal training or be at the beginning of studies.
