Why doesn't boards pay the mods?

There is a long thread on AH about that scheme where employers basically get people to work for free...and most observers are scathing of what they consider slave labour.

Boards is a business and it makes money, should they not then pay their mods, is it not another form of slave labour


I know some of the mods enjoy it for whatever reason, power rush, feeling like they are influencing stuff or just having a genuine interest in the topic but regardless work is work and they deserve payment.

Do they get anything at all I wander? a yearly bash with a free bar, vouchers, references....meagre pickings it seems

boards should do the honourable thing and pay them - and if this discussion is shut down or binned then it will speak volumes

pay the mods, people who work deserve payment, simples

They could possibly be paid in peanuts but that would elevate some of them to monkey status and some aren't ready for that yet.
