So im thinking of bringing my young lad [10 yr old] to a GP.
I was thinking along the lines of Silverstone as it may work out the cheapest?
Any suggestions of what ticket type to get and for what area?
Would also appreciate any suggestions of accomodation.

    Thanks folks.

Silverstone is a great track to see an F1 car for the first time, he'll love it! I was 12 when I went there for the first time and I'll never forget the first moment I saw an F1 car in full flight (Hakkinen at Maggots/Beckets). Usually when we head to Silverstone we camp at a golf course beside the Hanger Straight but a couple of years ago I stayed in a hotel in Milton Keynes and it was relatively cheap. I havent priced anything for this year yet though.

As far as tickets are concerned just get the General Admission and take fold-up chair with you and you'll be grand. The tickets for the stands are very expensive. If you do get a GA ticket you'll probably have to get to the track very early (in 97 we were there at five in the morning and were far from alone!)

Other than Silverstone pretty much any circuit is worth going to. Spa and Monza are obviously special for their history. Hungary is great for ensuring that you have great weather. The German GP is also one that you can fly to pretty cheaply and race tickets arent too dear either

Flights to Birmingham Sat morning/Monday afternoon are pretty inexpensive.

Birmingham isn't a bad shout for flights as there is a train station at the airport and you can get a direct train to Northampton in 40/50 mins maybe. From Northampton there will be loads of shuttle buses to bring you to the circuit.

If you are you wanting to stay in a hotel/B&B I would look at Rugby or Milton Keynes (prob v. pricey) as they are close to Northampton on the train. Coventry is a bit further (30 mins to N'hampton) so probably cheaper hotels (but the city is a dump).
