CAD Files to Client at Handover?

    Hi there,

Can anyone advise if the client is entitled to an AutoCAD copy of the drawing files at handover stage?

I have no problem issuing hard copies and PDFs but I would be a bit worried that my CAD files could be modified/reused at a later stage and any implications that might have.

    Thanks in advance

They are entitled to what ever you have agreed. If they employed you to do drawings and provide them in PDF and DWF format, then that's what they are entitled to. On the other hand, if the service was something else, they might not be. There's no rules here imo.

I think they can still be converted back, with little loss of information.

Yes but DWF is an electronic snapshot. So in the event of a later dispute as to the content you do have a record.

PDF files offer limited protection to the originator too as there are programs which can convert them to DXF
