You can go in today to the tax office and they'll give it to you straight away.
Bring your NCT and insurance discs with you so you can note their details on the tax form before you pay.

Cheers. Just what I wanted to hear. Any ideas of what I need to bring with me? Log book and proof of insurance?

Don't think NCT is needed to tax the car.

Edit: a DOE might be needed to tax commercials, but not private cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

Yeah nct not needed really. Was just easier to say to bring all discs.

Nct was not needed.. which was grand lol. Done and dusted now. Thanks for the advice.

    Lads,

I've a car has been off the road for close to a year. Tax was up last October.

I'm getting it repaired now and putting it back on the road.

Do I just bring the renewal notice into the Gardai or is there a form I need to bring in?

You need to declare car off road first for the time it wasn't used, then you can tax and drive it again.
There will be a form at your local Gardai station, it's the same one I linked above.
At the bottom there is a section: 7. DECLARATION OF NON USE
Sign there while Garda is watching and they will stamp and sign it too.
Then bring insurance cert to tax office (and nct if you have it and want to add it it on form, not really needed as I said above) and pay. You will pay for May onwards.

Have motortax.ie announced anywhere that they are not going to send out any paper reminders for tax in the post in future? just happened to come across it here and I know I don't have any email address configured on my account (by choice).

Is there any other way to retrieve your online pin if you can't have it sent to your email address?

    hmmm....

By text but not sure if that is enabled right now, I just use mail.

Thanks for that. I got the form stamped by the Gardai in Cavan last night.

Now, for another question, the vehicle is in my wife's name and the address is Cavan on the tax form and the form the Garda stamped but its easier for my wife to get to Navan tax office in Meath.

Will Navan tax office process the document for her or does she have to go to Cavan?

What documentation do I require? The NCT is out since March but my plan was tax it and then bring it for NCT.

Looks like it is just the completed form that you need, according to the instructions on the back of Form RF100A 9 (which you already have).

Bring the log book and current insurance policy. No need for NCT cert.

Most of the time they don't look at the policy or book but a few times I was asked for it.

Oh and a pen, they never have any there to fill out the forms:)
