I thought they need my PPS number for paying PRSI and etc. etc. etc.

Think I will be paid my credit transfer.

I was told they just need my details. Something dodgy perhaps??

When an employer asks for your details they mean:

Your PPSN - So that they can apply your tax credits, PRSI and USC if applicable.
Your bank details - So that you can be paid.

Did you hand over a P45? If not, then get the employer ref no. from your employers, call that over to Revenue and have them send you a form 12A which details your tax credits.

Sorry I meant to say bank details was all that was asked of me.
They never asked for anything else. I just wanted to make sure that I was doing everything right and paying my taxes.

    Red flag.

Without your PPSN they cannot pay tax for you and if they don't pay your tax, you will be liable for it. Just speak to whoever is in charge of the payroll and mention that you don't think you gave them your PPSN and see what they say.

It's also possible that they got this information from somewhere else, like a P45. Or if you were referred on by FAS or another state body, they could have provided your PPSN.

It is also possible that you are not a PAYE worker. If not, then they employer would have no requirement to deduct taxes on your behalf, although they would still have to issue PRSI payments. If you are a self-employed subcontractor, then there would be no requirement to pay PRSI for you. This would be the case with some sales jobs and some service industries - they pay you a fee or a commission and you are responsible for your own PRSI and PAYE.

Were you given a contract OP? It should be listed in there how frequently you get paid, by what method and what (if any) deductions will be made on your behalf, at source.

If you have no contract, and it is not a sales job, and you are not a subcontractor, this added to them not asking for a PPSN would be a reason for concern.
