Go on YouTube type in sleep music, go into the video with the pic of a head, guarantee you'll be asleep before video is finished :) I usually am anyway

If it's going on for long periods then it's probably something niggling on your conscious.

If this is happening for over two weeks then go to GP and get some bloodwork done to rule out anything on the medical side of things.

Try some relaxation. No caffeine after 6 in the evening. Stretch an hour before bed. Cut out high energy foods earlier in the evening.

If you can't sleep for more than 30 mins, get up and do something without screens for 30 mins. Read a book, listen to some slow songs.

If that doesn't work, get more exercise and tire yourself out. Get up earlier too.

If this persists, as was said above, call your GP and get some tests done.

Get more exercise to tire you out.
Warm milk drinks contain a chemical that really does make you drowsy. Cut out coffee in the evenings.
Youtube has lots of videos of white noise designed to help you dose off; rainfall, traffic noises, waves, etc.
Don't use your bedroom for anything other than sleep (and maybe hanky panky), or your brain will associate being in there with work rather than with sleep.
    Get into a routine.
If it does persist go talk to your GP

What I find helps if I can't sleep is to stick on some relaxing music, put on a spoken word podcast or start watching some sort of factual documentary. For some reason reading has never worked for me. Counting sheep never has

Have you always had problems sleeping at night? Has your routine changed? Diet? Physical activity? Exercise and diet are key to sleep. If you are not in shape and your diet is crap it will have an impact on your ability to fall asleep or get a restful night sleep. All the counting sheep, meditation cds, etc are not going to help if you are not taking care of what you are putting inside your body and lack physical activity. We have become more sedentary because of jobs being in front of a desk. People are eating more sh*te convenience food because it is easier and faster.

Exercise helps with stress and keeping fit. A healthy sleep inducing diet like eliminating caffeine, sugar, alcohol and eating foods that are high in tryptophan and tyrosine closer to bedtime helps. Alcohol, even in moderation exacerbates sleep disturbances as it screws around with blood sugar levels during metabolisation.

I hope circumstances have not changed for you on an emotional level.
Sleep disturbances are a sign ofdepression, but at least identifying with this early can unleash that and with proper treatment (changes to lifestyle) can help preventdepressive episodes.
