Looking for a good air rifle for a mate if anyone has one - I dunno a lot about them myself so any advice welcome

It's for vermin control around a farm yard so a fairly high powered one if available

    Thanks

Depends on his budget - I use the Weihrauchs myself, Slug Gun has his own arsenal, there's a Daystate user on here as well (but I can't remember who it is although I really should :o)

The PCP's are the easiest to shoot, the quietest when moderated, and give fast follow up shots - but they're expensive! (€900-1400)

Good break barrel or underlever guns are cheaper but louder and slower. (€350-700)

Good ammo is essential in either. (Recommend Crosman premier, JSB, Daystate, H&N, RWS, Beeman - avoid Gamo and anything pointed)

At farmyard ranges you may well be better off without a scope at all, but if you insist then use something very low mag.

I'm sure you'll get offers of fella's to come along and help with the problem - so I'll just throw myself onto that list for consideration at this stage :p if ye're based anywhere around the North Kildare/Westmeath area. ;)

Lakelands in Mullingar has a few air rifles, Webley Patriot is fairly powerful and not too expensive.

Lakelands are also the Irish agent for Daystate rifles so should have an option for pretty much any budget.

My advice would be buy the best you can afford within reason - don't go for the cheapest model, you DO get what you pay for.

I'm a Weihrauch fanboy as mentioned earlier but there are no cheap Weihrauchs.

Air arms, Daystate & Diana are all very good brands which do have cheaper ranges.

I had a HW97K well made springer, bit heavy for lugging around though. Also had the TX 200.Both similar not much in it really, perhaps the HW just shaved it.
