As the title says, he keeps hitting it off the kennel cage with excitement when your going to let him out or feed him. The tip is gone bald and not getting a chance to heal. Whats the best thing to do?

That's a cruel way to dock a tail in a dog and illegal also.

Genuine question and not questioning the legality - but why is it considered cruel?

I'm intrigued, how old was the dog at the time? I would have thought you couldn't use this method on older dogs.

I have a springer bitch who's tail was only 1/4 docked, and she keeps bursting it open in heavy cover, I used to beat with her but she was getting destroyed and I was getting too many funny looks so I stopped going altogether.

I looked into having a bit amputated off her tail but the vet I went to was charging over €280. The only other vet I'ld trust to do it was over 60miles away so I didn't bother with it.

She's fine now, I had a litter of pups off her and I made sure to dock them properly myself, just about half way turned out lovely.

I would have brought the dog to the vet.

Its because its getting to excited when it sees you. The dog associates you with excitement so just go to the pen and ignore it regularly as often as possible soon your entrance will be met with indifference.

Just dropped a springer into the vet for docking 60-70 € even show it a bit of cover and the tail bleeds breeder never took enough off shame but 3 or 4 weeks rest will not go astray
