It would be a little slow but it does depend on what your used to.

We have a 1.6tdi 105 in an octavia manual and its not slow not fast either I wouldn't really consider it underpowered. The dsg is not like a conventional auto and so it shouldn't make it any slower than a manual. I suppose it also depends what car your coming from as you may consider it very fast or slow when comparing it to your current car.

It's going to fell slow tbh with you coming from a 520d. Good difference in power there. The 1.6 has adequate power that's it its not fast. Put can comfortably travel along at 120kph and drive normally I think the main place you would find a big difference is overtaking. You could always test drive one and see what you think.

I can't see why you'd ever want to go from a 520D to a 1.6 Golf. The 1.6 is grand for typical driving but I found the 1.9 (same HP and pulls a bit better in the mid range revs) to be sluggish when attempting to overtake at around 90-100Kph, it certainly won't have anywhere near the same pull the 5er has.

I delivered an A3 1.6Tdi S-Tronic to a customer last week. Same engine/gearbox combo as the Golf 1.6Tdi DSG.

It's pretty nippy a low ish speeds, so fine around town. Didn't feel a massive amount slower than my 520d, but it was only a short journey and max speed around 60 km/h.

Where it will lose out big time to the 520 is acceleration from higher (motorway) speeds. The 5 still has plenty left in the tank, but you could tell the 1.6Tdi was beginning to run out of steam at higher speeds.
