Parking on private property

I'm in a boarding school and apparently I am not allowed to park on the premises. The reason was for 'insurance reasons' but am I legally allowed to park here? I have a legal vehicle (insurance tax etc) and I taught I am covered because it is a school which has public access insurance and is covered by the road traffic act.

It's private property so they can impose whatever rules they like as long as they don't discriminate illegally against defined minorities.

The fact that you are insured is neither here nor there and the RTA probably does not apply since the car park is presumably not open to the general public so it is not a 'public place' within the meaning of the RTA which by the way in and of itself does not guarantee you admission as of right, it just means that people driving cars who are permitted onto the grounds need a driving licence and insurance and must not drink drive.

So for example if the college had an open day for prospective pupils and their parents and the place was open for cars, it would on the day be a public place for the purpose of the RTA but that still does not mean you have the absolute right to drive in.
