Home studio kit

Hi,
I'm thinking of purchasing a home studio kit, mainly to take family photo's + portraits.
I've seen a kit on eBay which seems to have everything but I don’t know much about studio hardware :-(

I used a studio before but everything was setup for me but could I achieve this image ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidmcadam/8211101679/in/photostream/ ) from the kit in the link below.

Is the following kit, good/bad or would you have any recommendations on what to buy for starting.

I would also have to buy a white\black backdrop and a light meter.

for a few shots at home it's probably grand, but if the cheaper models tend to over heat a bit and don't have fast recycling times. If you ever hope to make your money back it might be worth checking out Bowers or Elinchrom, or even Quantum if your on a budget, I've Elinchrom and Quantum and can't fault the flash units, Elinchroms old trigger is a different story
