Things to do in the evening

I'll be in London again in the 2nd weekend of May working over the weekend. Usually I just waste time in pubs but I'd like to do something else if possible.

I've checked Museums and the likes but everything's closed around 5-6pm which is when I'm finishing up work so I'm too late for anything like that.

Are pubs my only option? I'm staying near to the Tower of London..

Go eat a feed of lamb chops and curry in Tayyabs in Whitechapel, some of the best munch in town. Then take a short trip to Tower Bridge and go on a Jack the Ripper tour around the East End. It's guided and really interesting.

Then go and get drunk, you're only here for the weekend.

The Tower is only a stones throw from over 50 theatres in the West End with world class productions taking place in most of them every night.

The London Eye and Shard are both nearby and both open till after sunset if you fancy looking down on everyone.

There is also the centuries old Ceremony of the Keys in the Tower itself every night. A bit of living history, although while it is free to watch, I think it does require tickets so it might be need to be booked well in advance.

Check out Time Out. In my opinion its the best guide to find out whats happening in London.

Well in advance, it's booked out for most of the rest of the year. There's only space for 15 people each night according to the website.

I think the Tate Modern stays open until 10pm on Friday and Saturday if that's your thing.

You are really unfortunate to be missing the Museums at Night weekend by just the single week.

Think I might take advantage of it and go to the event at the Design Museum looking at 'past and present visions of the future'.
