Peeling lacquer - BMW 318i

Howdy folks, I bought a tidy 3 series a few weeks ago and have just finished getting it in order mechanically. It's driving like a brand new car.

There is just one spot on the paint that is a major problem; peeling lacquer on the booth lid.

I know the only real fix is a respray of the panel but I can't justify that financially at the moment.

Any alternatives to stop it getting worse and perhaps make it look a little better?

    I've attached a few pics.

    Cheers!

Sorry, I've had that same issue on an older BMW and there is nothing you can do. Nothing I tried worked.
The only thing in my experience that can be done is to find another bootlid in same colour and swap.
Swapping over isn't a big job and a replacement lid if you can find one is less than 100.

Start looking on donedeal/adverts.ie/partfinder/traynors/etc for cars of the same model and hopefully, if your colour is common, you'll find a replacement.
If you go to a breaker ring beforehand and if they have a lid - make sure to agree on a price beforehand.
I drove an hour to Clare to see a lid and the breaker, after he saw my lid first hand, suddenly wanted 80 for it instead of 30 he said over the phone.

    Needs a respray.

BMWs are notorious for laquer peel, but thats an unusual spot to get it in. Generally its the bumper areas.

Have a look around the rest of the car, if it's in one spot it could be somewhere else too.
    What year/model is it?

Judging by the first picture it's an E46 318i
    Looks like a pre-facelift...guessing 00 or 01

Just put a nuremberg sticker over it :pac:. Seriously it will need respraying unless you get a boot lid from a breakers.

as said a 2nd hand boot in the same colour would be the best bet may take a while but thats what i would do, 100 max id say for one, or i normally charge 120 to 150 for a job like that
