    Their loss :(
    Dear lowelife,
Thank you for your recent application to volunteer at The 2014 Ryder Cup. We have had an unprecedented level of interest with over 17,000 applications for just 1,800 positions.
Unfortunately your application for a volunteer role was not successful at this time. However, we would like to thank you for taking the time to apply - the level of interest in the event has been unprecedented.
Please note that, due to the number of applications involved, we are unable to provide individual feedback on applications.
We do have a number of additional volunteer opportunities at other European Tour events and would be delighted if you would consider taking part in some of those activities. Volunteers help to make our tournaments and offer an opportunity for many people to play their part a nd get close to their golfing heroes. If you are interested in considering future positions please visit www.europeantour.com for further details.
Once again, thank you for your interest in supporting The 2014 Ryder Cup.
    Kind regards,
    Ryder Cup Europe

Leaves the door open for your selection as vice captain though.

Not sure if this is the right place but hoping you can help me out. I want to get tickets for next year and I have completed the photo registration. The ballot opened today but I'm not sure exactly how it works. If I enter the ballot, provide my credit card details and am successful, do I have a chance to turn them down? Or do they just charge me card and send me the tickets? The reason I am asking is that they are a surprise for someone and I wanted to wait until their birthday in July to tell them.

I actually have the screen open in front of me and am wondering the same thing !! My reading of it is that if you are successful in the ballot, they bill you straight away and the tickets are yours. It doesnt look like they give you the option.

Pretty expensive at 148.50 sterling for the Sunday and 123.50 for the other days. Then again it's not like I expected them to be cheap :-)

If they ask you for the credit card details before you know if you're getting tickets or not, it usually means that if you are successful, they will immediately debit your card. It acts as a disincentive for people to apply for more tickets than they can use and saves the organisers the hassle of waiting to see if people accept the offer of tickets or not.

As an example of an alternative system, Wimbledon doesn't ask for CC details, you wait to see if you're offered tickets and if you are successful, you have a few days to contact them and pay up but in their case I suspect that 99% of ticket offers are accepted.

Anyone else applying for only 1 ticket ?
Couldnt convince anyone else to go and was too expensive to bring the wife and kids along for the drive
I know its a little early , but if successful , planning on heading over in the car and camping or sleeping in car.

Applied over the weekend for the lottery, my thinking was that you don't have to buy once selected.
    Could be wrong.

@COYBIB take a look at the park and ride spots (North, West and East) you might get decen B&Bs around the area.

Cheers , would prefer a decent B+B , but it would wind me up to be paying £200 a night for some kip 100 miles away. Will look more closely if I get selected .
Was thinking of driving with the intention of camping somewhere close with the Car as backup for the lovely Scottish weather !! Plus I could bring the clubs in the car ;)

In the hope you can play if someone pulls out?.....I think you should settle for getting a ticket
