Does Aer Lingus check in (not just bags) for Virgin Atlantic connections via LHR?

Flying DUB/LHR/NRT soon, DUB/LHR is Aer Lingus and LHR/NRT is Virgin Atlantic. All on the same ticket. Aer Lingus states that they do thorough check-in of bags but I can't figure out if they could check us in for the flight and issue boarding passes for the Virgin Flight as well or not. Aer Lingus customer service lady said she doesn't know!!

Anyone have any experience of this? Last year I had a KLM connection and it was a through checking all the way but it was different it was a codeshare. This one is not a codeshare, it's just one ticket but different flight numbers/airline codes.

I flew last year on one ticket with Aer lingus and Virgin. The route was Cork-Gatwick-BGI. Aer lingus would not check our bags all the way through but did issue us with boarding cards for virgin flight. We had to pick up our bags in Gatwick and recheck them in. We had a 12 hr stopover so this wasn't ideal dragging 2 suitcases. However on the way back Virgin check our bags right through in BGI for collection in Cork and said aer lingus should have done this coming out.

Yes, they will check in you and your bags the whole way through.

Not sure why Assassian had issues, could just have been agent wasn't sure because of long layover time.

Yes I think they will, espicially if a one ticket booking. Recently flew cork-Heathrow (aer Lingus) then BA overseas. Luggage checked in at cork didn't collect until final destination. Had only 1.5hr changeover too so was very glad not to have bag waiting time.

Thanks. Might be a bit different in your case as it would be a codeshare flight (your ORK/LHR would have a BA flight number).

Yeah that's strange. Aer Lingus officially have an interline agreement with Virgin and I thought they bags would definitely be checked in through if on the same ticket: http://www.aerlingus.com/i18n/en/htmlPopups/baggageinformation.html (see interline section). The bit I'm concerned with is boarding passes.

Should be fine, as they've issued boarding passes for me before. If (for some reason) they can't issue a boarding pass, the luggage should go without an issue and the Virgin Atlantic desk at flight connections in Heathrow will give you one.

Came back via LHR with BA recently and then Aer Lingus to Ireland.

BA booked my bags through all the way to Ireland but could not issue boarding passes for the Aer Lingus flight. I was able to collect the boarding pass at the Aer Lingus transfer desk in Heathrow, this is in front of you as you come in through flight connections in T1.
