ill be heading straight from work. Give the new bike an outing.

The flyer says sign on is 7 and race start is 7.30.

Ill get there for 6.30 just to be sure. Are the three lads racing tonight?

I'm out. Had hoped to do it, but domestics got in the way. Can someone throw up an idea of what the traffic is like out to it? Might help make decision for next time.

I'm only a few minutes from Mondello and was wondering would it be worthwhile going to watch this never seen a race before. Is there a charge to watch it?

No charge afaik and most definitely worth a look bring the camera get to one of the fast corners you can stand at the side of the track unlike the motorsport events and get some good shots

friday traffic usually stalls around exit 9 for naas,. this is exit 10( further out) usually 18 minutes nass to say newlands. allow more time for delay at red cow, newlands and Naas exit 9

alos traffic over the M 50 onto the Naas N7(?) dual carraige , at the red cow heading toward Naas road can be very slow after 6 pm.

A nice spring evening out there earlier.Good big field and it all came together with about 3 laps to go.The big dude Aidan Crowley from DID sprinted home for the win.A good few lengths to spare.

I love handicap races, so much tougher than open a4 races, no dawdling at 25 kph. Brilliant training. Averaged about 41 kph and finished in the bunch. Bmc performed flawlessly.

my first Mondello outing, much tougher than open A4. Found I had to adjust to the constant swerving for corners, almost dizzying experience

fast !! Not too much negative riding. !! Up to the A4 to stay away longer next time

So is it just like a handicapped race but on a circuit? A4's go first then A3's and so on is it?
    By the way...SMART-ARSE!!

Yeah, just like any other handicap race, only there's no traffic coming towards you.

The mondello race in June last year was my first ever race, they're good fun, you can see around all the corners, and they're all soft enough bends to be able to pedal through them.

How many laps did you do and is it the national or international track?

Think it's usually an hour plus 5 laps on the international circuit

actually - i think its a great venue, lots of fast corners, lots of having to work, as said earlier, not much negative riding, there was allways someone trying to break away in the a4 group. Not too much dodgy riding.

Maybe for you - my cornering was a complete disaster on my only outing in Mondello last year, although there was a biblical downpour. I was in great form but was using up silly amounts of effort to compensate for my crap handling. It was a real eye-opener.

Just need to know the right line ;)

Years of tipping around mondello in cars probably stood to me...

Absolutely. Killalanerr of this parish was a dab hand around Mondello last year, having roared a few motorbikes around there in the past.

my last time round mondello on a motorbike involved me sliding up the track on my ass. I had great fun pointing out (to anyone who would listen) the corners I crashed on (most of them)

Thankfully I've only ever went off on Dunlop.....hammering down the straight in the clio, do I go for 4th, do I stay in 3rd....went for 4th, under the bridge, hard on the brakes....no brakes, oh sh1t....into the gravel, wall getting closer, OH SH1T....lock the wheel right, handbrake up, foot welded to the floor on the brakes....stopped about 2 or 3 foot from the wall.

I was finding gravel in my wheel arches for a few weeks afterwards....

Luckily, a photographer was on hand to capture for all eternity my last moments racing a motorbike! :)
    I retired after that crash.

a few flew off on dunlop last night on the last run in to the finish

Didn't make it last night unfortunately but in the wet last year i found squeezing the cheeks of your arse together instead of the brakes saves lots of effort on the sprint out of the corners :) as one of my club mates say only pink blouses pull brakes in mondello

Who's the Dude taking all the photos, is he on facebook or anywhere. He's there the whole time but never seem to see any of the photo's he takes online.

Be a good idea to move that tyrewall back a bit next time as well. Made for an interesting last lap.

HAHAAHAHA The third pic is like your CBoardman in the Lucan GP :D:D This is proof beyond any doubt that you are not safe on 2 wheels and do in fact cause crashes.

Faster than usual, short circuit was just non stop power and speed. Lungs aching still. Some race, good fun

Found that tough. when we were caught by the A3's it was still pretty manageable but as soon as the A1's and A2's came up it was just relentless. Eventually dropped off the back and coasted round a couple more times before pulling in. Great workout though.

Any one ride it tonight? Great end to the series. Only my second one I made this year but probably the most enjoyable races I've done this season. Great to hear they will be extending the series next year will definitely try and make most of them. Really enjoy the different style of racing that I think suits my ability's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭Actual Paramedic

Some of the best races to use as race training and to bring along the fitness and ability. Great organisation and delighted there is gonna be more events next year.
