Problem renaming folders in Windows 7

If I slow-double-click a folder to select the folder name then overtype a new name and hit enter or deselect I get the "cannot rename, folder in use... etc". If I right-click and select Rename there is no problem renaming! Any ideas why this happens?

Did you check the properties of the folder? Read only?

Could it be a slow disk or large folder? This sometimes happens as you mouse over the folder and it starts calculating its size or generating thumbnails, so it is in use and can't be renamed on first try. I've noticed this with images on WIN7, particularly over a network where thumbnails are being generated and I click an image to open it, it will say it's in use and can't be opened...
