    Hey folks,
I've 15 limosine store bullocks around the 650kgs mark, anyway they've gained on average 75kgs over the winter however one of the bullocks has gained zero...
He was 530kgs going into the shed, 530kgs in February and 530kgs last Friday night, every other bullock has gained a reasonable amount of wieght (given the winter taht was in it:rolleyes:).
He has had the same dosing regime as the others and doesn't look scuttery around the back end or anything...
I'm feeding meal to finish them at present and he has no interest in it, any ideas in what's wrong with him or what i should do with him???

is he growing a frame? even the best of stores may not put on weight during the growing period during winter especially if feed isnt up to scratch

open their mouths and you may see the first 2 teeth coming up. Had a young vet here recently that didnt know what age cattle put up their different teeth at. Years ago most cattles mouths would be examined before purchase

How long would it take an animal to set teeth?

yeah himself and another fella who aren't putting on weight seem to be getting rangeir alright, they'd turn into fine bullocks if my overdraft could cope with it:rolleyes:

Bought a few heifers years ago. When I was telling an elderly neighbor about my purchase, he asked if I checked their teeth. Did not have a clue what he was talking about, but I did not want to look stupid either so I said ya I checked them, they are all there.

What did they say in response? And... do you think you got away with it? Hard to fool the old boys I find ;)

He just laughed at me. Saw right through me! I quickly changed the subject.

    About setting teeth:
Neighbour of mine had a huge AA bull that suddenly went back, you wouldn't have given a euro for him at one stage. Turned out he had toothache (don't know how they worked that out) and was not able to eat. Neighbour's wife made a sort of porridge for him and fed him in small mouthfuls for nearly 6 weeks, she sat on a bale in front of him and spooned it into his mouth. I think maize meal and molasses featured in the mush. Eventually he came ok but was a serious softy after the attention - they thought he'd turn dangerous but ended up keeping him for a lot longer than normal 'coz he'd do anything for them.

    yeah, you've read my mind...
I'm thinking of running him to the mart, he's 530kgs, with another bullock who's 600kgs. they look quite similar even with the weight diffenence.
They're both nice red limosines and should fetch an immediate pretty penny, €1,300 anyone???
