    Folks,

Can anyone recommend a mechanic to view a potential purchase on short notice? I'm hoping to view/purchase an S40 tomorrow as it ticks all the boxes but if I'm plumping down several grand I'd like the reassurance of having someone who knows a whole lot more than me looking it over.

    Dublin.

Sometimes they will give you the lend of the car, kinda like swap cars for the weekend so you can take it for a good drive. Bring it to an independent mechanic not a garage to have a look over. That's the only thing I can think of.

    I used a guy called Larry before from inspectacarorvan.com - 087 xxx

Had him inspect an Alfa GT last year, car turned out to be a complete crock (suspension wear, tyres worn on inside, bearing noise from engine, etc). He also spotted from across the forecourt that it had been repainted at the rear. I'd say he's in his 50's, he's fairly old school and doesn't give you a three-page printout listing every nick in the bodywork but he will tell you whether a car is sound or not overall.

I think he was €100 if you bring the car to him or €130 for a callout.
