Can't find any flights from Ireland to Monte Carlo?

We have always wanted to visit Monte Carlo and we never looked into before as we thought the hotels would be completely out of reach. I eventually had a look for June/July and the hotel prices are fairly moderate/reasonable, not the exorbitant prices that I was expecting at all.

However, what I was not expecting is that I cannot seem to find any flights from Ireland to Monte Carlo. I used Skyscanner and there was only one option with Air France for something ridiculous like €2000 per person return to Dublin.

Has anyone been or know what the story is, am I completely missing something? I didn't even consider that there would be a problem flying from Ireland to an EU country. I know it's a tax exile/haven etc but is this the reason for the flight difficulty.

    Any info greatly appreciated.

Get a flight to Nice. Then if you really want to arrive in Monaco by air you get a helicopter transfer.

I never considered Nice although a helicopter transfer sounds a little extravagant. Any idea what the travel time would be by road?

From Nice airport you can get a bus to the railway station and the train to Monaco will take about 20 minutes. Alternatively you can go by bus (number 100) to Monaco, 30 minutes, a great view of the coast and one of the best travel bargains in Europe just 1 euro.

The helicopter transfer is about 75-80 euro.

Super info, thanks a mill. :D

Monaco is pretty good, but for the love of god, don't stay there!!!!

Best option is to stay elsewhere along the coast, Nice, Villefranche, Eze, Menton, Beaulieu sur Mer for example, then just head in to Monaco for a day trip.

Don't mean to crush your dream but apart from the Palace, Harbour and Casino Square, there's really nothing else to see. I used to travel to Nice a lot and anytime we brought guests with us, Monaco was always a must-see, but most found a half day there enough unless there's something on around the swimming pool - carnival or the likes.

+1 on the 100 bus route mentioned by elperello. You'd need to get the bus from the Airport to Gare Routiers. It's the 98 or 99 route, then take the 100 from there to Monaco. It passes through all the towns I mentioned above and Menton is the last stop.

Villefranche is amazing. Try stay there if you can.

The Gare in Monaco is quite probably the most opulent public transit station in the world. Wall to wall and floor to ceiling Italian marble.

Be wary, the Principality of Monaco, (where Monte Carlo is) isn't part of the EU. So be sure that your personal documents are correct for any border checks.

Also, you should try and get out of Monte Carlo, if you can, and visit other spots around Monaco. Walking up or near Mont Agel may be an option.

    Enjoy the trip.

And I wouldn't even think of paying that money for the helicopter from Nice airport. The Heliport in Monaco is by the sea down at the south-western end of the principality. You'll exit through an anonymous looking building and get straight into a taxi to your hotel so nobody except the taxi driver will know that you arrived by helicopter!

definately fly to Nice, its very close to Monaco..I agree with other posters, dont stay in Monte Carlo or Monaco (maybe one night if you want to say you have stayed there but no more) as after 1/2 days you will have had enough, there are much nicer places to stay along the coast.

Monaco can be a bit dull and can be easily done in a day trip so I'd agree with the other posters. Walk around the harbour, go up to the the Casino Square and walk down to the Hotel Fairmont (used to be the Grand) where right outside the front door you'll recognise the famous hairpin bend used in the Monaco Grand Prix. The palace isn't really worth bothering about but if you do, the little cathedral is nearby, Princess Grace is buried inside beside the altar with a few other Monaco royalty, including her husband Prince Ranier.

    Be 'wary'?

There are no 'border checks' between France and Monaco, nobody will ask to see your passport.

    Just to reassure the OP.

@coylemj, I am not sure why the phrase "Be wary" prevents oxygen to your face.
You are the first person to mention Passport. Perhaps you imagined I wrote Passport, but certainly you identified my post with the word 'Passport'. I have noticed your posts previously on question of Border checks and you don't seem to respond correctly to the scenario. Many of your responses border on xenophobia and you use the weight of replies to beat down any other poster responding to you.

I am not as confident as you in giving absolute replies for any intending visit.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, be amazed by the vehicle porn on offer.

An F50 over there is the equivalent of a bog standard Fiesta here.

And the 'yachts' the size of ferries.

It is however inluded in the Schengen agreement, so no problems here.

Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Leichtenstein have the same status.

OP - The reason you can not find any flights from Dublin to Monte Carlo is because Monaco does not have an international airport.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Weirdly, I was just there yesterday (very rarely get the chance to say that, so had to reply!). As above, fly into Nice, and it's an incredibly cheap bus ride or short drive. If you want to arrive in style, you could get the bus up to Eze which is beautiful and well worth a visit. There's a guy who does a Ferrari driving experience there in a F430 (by the perfume factory), so you might be able to drive into Monaco in it - a lot cheaper than renting one for a day! There are some great views of the city too if approaching from the Eze side.

I have to admit, I could happily wander around Monaco for days, just enjoying the weather and the architecture. I don't get why people say there's nothing there.. That said, the around the casino is a bit weird, you'd even see people in supercars taking photos of other supercars, it's all a bit bizarre.
