Has anyone any advice on online counselling....is it any good?
I mind my son all day so find it hard to go see someone and don't have a webcam so can't Skype. Are there any counsellors/psychologists who can offer an instant chat or email session?

    Hi OP,

I havnt used their services so cannot tell you if they are any good or not but maybe somebody else will be aware of them

There have a piece on the same page about the benefits of online counselling

    Good luck!

I know that Aware offer online counselling, it's free, but I think it is only for depression, and the modality is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

    Hi OP,
Sadly we cannot facilite personal recommendations for therapists here.

People can share their experience of online therapy but we cannot name individual therapists.

Yes there are people who offer this service in Ireland.

Have a look at the top of the page for the thread on how to find a counsellor, this will explain about contacting professional bodies, and from there you can could seek online therapy.

    Hope this helps.

Can I also add that the price of a webcam is really worth it. If the counsellor can see your facial expressions and your body language (which is after all 80% of communication), it makes a huge difference to their ability to help you. Just think how little we know about people just going by text, even if they do add emoticons :)

    Hope this is useful

Also check out the sticky, there is a link to an article on On Line Counselling which needs to be required reading for anyone considering it.

i would think maybe its better to be there face to face so you can really feel things and the counceler can respond in real time , maybe

I didn't know this was even an option for trained counselors.
One of the reasons among many for not pursuing psychology or things related, was that I have auditory dyslexia(to an extent visual too) and cannot properly comprehend audio conversations. It's too much work.

Over the years I have unwittingly being doing this type of "work" online..
Not as advice or counseling, but as a supportive person to talk to, with positive results. Always text chats through instant message or email.
Is this something I could possibly train to do in 1-2 years and make a living wage from?
Considering that already I have helped a lot of people through the type of breakdowns and depression I went through, it seems sensible to use it to survive and might make it even more effective.

Does anyone know the qualifications needed?
I hope this is ok to ask in this thread. I presume the question in the OP has more or less been answered.
I don't want to take awayform anything here. But also don't want to spam the forum with same topic threads.
