Ford Focus 06: rear speakers dead, how to remove door cards?

So i'm quite happy with my new (to me) focus, but it was only after i bought it i discovered that the rear speakers were dead. No problem i thought, i'm swapping out the stereo anyway, its probably a loose connection. So i swap out the stereo today, and lo and behold, the speakers are still dead.

So, unless i'm not aware of any other reason, the next step is to check the speakers themselves. Looking at the rear doorcards, there are no screws of any type holding them on, so how do i remove them without doing damage?

They can't both be not working.

I wonder if its supposed to have rear speakers?

yep, theres a place in the door cards for them, and the stereo had a fader setting, so they're either not there or not working!

You'd imagine it would have them so. Was there a phone kit in the car? Any signs of electrical butchery going on?

none whatsoever, stock stereo has bluetooth built in and everything is A1. friend has a ghia saloon also and he has rear speakers so i'm pretty sure it's supposed to have them.

My focus van has factory fitted rear speakers (quiet good sound actually) so I'm sure a Ghia spec has them. Op could it be something stupid like the radio is set to all front sound rather than middle on some radios you can change which speakers the majority of the sound comes from. Did it come with a ford cd6000 unit or did you fit an aftermarket one?

Both, and i checked the fader control on both of them, when you fade to the rear you get nothing. therefore its one of three things: no speakers, dead speakers or bad wiring after the connectors somewhere along the line.

Door cards just pop off. Only thing to be aware of is you WILL break some of the clips in doing so, so be prepared for that and get yourself to eBay and stock up on them before you attempt the job. If you're unlucky you will also break some of the White housings that the door card clips clip into, if you do that then you'll have to go on a hunt to find them, as they're strangely difficult to find and Ford don't sell them seperately (as they're glued to the door card originally) so they'll only sell you a new door card.

But, Bentley to the rescue, they use the same clips and when you buy them they come with the White base plate also (plus they're cheaper from them than Ford)...

The Part number you'll be looking for is: 6Q0868241

Yes, some of my drivers side door is held on with Bentley parts. :D

Best way to get them off is to start at the bottom at one side, then as odd as it sounds, once you've slid a screwdriver/butter knofe or whatever in to be able to leve the card off a bit for grip, pull in a short hard quick/sharp motion to pop the clip out. If you use gradual force you will break the clips/clip housings. It feels like you'd do more damage using the proper method but you'll actually pop them out doing the least amount of damage this way. Start the bottom at one side and work your way along that then around and upwards, there should be 8/9 clips holding it on.

I used 2 washing up sponges to keep the panel wedged open so it didn't snap on the clips again.

On a tangent to the topic here.
I've an 07 focus which had an annoying rattle coming from the the front passenger door. Left it into the local dealer who, not only could not find the source, but gave it back to me sounding worse.
Is it possible that one or more of these clips were broken to begin with and the dealer only broke more trying to do the repair.
Its as annoying as feck listening to it

With the amount of effort it took me to find all of that out at the time I needed it, the least I can do is make it as easy as possible for anyone else! :P

so i balked at doing this job today as i knew i'd do damage, so i went downtown to my local advance and they happily helped me get the doorcards off, without breaking any clips I might add. one speaker was totally dead, but the other, once it was disconnected and reconnected worked again.

so after a quick trip to a breakers i sourced replacement for 20 quid, and the guy at advance drilled out the rivets for the old one (yes they're riveted in!) fitted and re-riveted the replacement for a tenner, so big shout out to advance pitstop in midleton for that.

so now i've 4 working speakers!
