Hi, I was wondering (because I was thinking of renting an apartment in Galway City) are there many 5k / 10k runs around the region? I did check out RunIreland and other sites but is it a case that the runs usually take place in very rural areas that may not be on a bus route from the city?

    Thanks just wondering.

I see Galway city Harriers out and about sometimes
    www.galwaycityharriers.com

There is quite a few threads in Running forum, Dangan seems the preferred choice.

In the city itself running from Nimmo's Pier along the water to the "wall" at the end of Salthill prom and back is popular. About 7k.

make it a 10k by adding the loop around the links holes of the golf course.

I have a few different loops of varying lenght if you wanna pm me but it's pretty easy to track a few runs around the town using mapmyrun taking in the prom, dangan pitches, barna woods, bushypark etc.

I reckon west of the river is better than east for running..... but i'm open to disagreement on this.

Get the 405 to Ballybrit industrial estate and run a couple of laps of the racecourse.

There is a 10k on this weekend: http://www.greatrace.ie/

Galway 5k series is sold out, always does within about 1 hour of going on sale.
The only other races in the county that sell out I believe are the Streets of Galway 8k in August & the Fields of Athenry 10k on Stephen's Day.

Plenty of other races in Galway county, it will depend on the event location whether or not it's easily accessible by public transport. Runireland.com has almost all the events listed & you can search by county.

For training runs, there's tons of routes possible & you can make them as flat or as hilly as you want. Mapmyrun would be a good source for some suggested routes in Galway.

OP, are you looking for running-routes or pack-running-events? "Runs" is a little vague as descriptions go ...]
