BER. Can I get a grant on the basis of improving a BER rating?

I'm purchasing a house which, if I were to BER it, would obtain something pretty horrendous. Post planned re-furb it would BER at a higher rating.

Are there any grants issued based on this metric alone (rather than the SEAI which seems to demand I use particular contractors for the insulation aspects of the refurb (which wouldn't suit))?

    Thanks in advance..

firstly, the house should be "BER'ed" ;) prior to you purchasing. Its the sellers legal responsibility to do this.

You cannot get a SEAI grant unless the house was built prior to 2006.

You cannot get a grant to do work yourself.

You can get a grant to cover all the works if you are in receipt for fuel allowance, which you wouldnt be.

More like BIRR-ed. I'm not sure what the equivilent of an NG is (my leaving cert had a few of them)

The seller isn't going to BER and I'm not going to make 'em. It's a thing I love about Ireland (compared to our more orderly Northern European neighbours) - the malleability of the law :D.

    It's built somewhat before that.

The builder is doing it. As part of an overall refurb. It doesn't make sense to shoehorn a listed contractor in for but a part of the work.

    But thanks Syd

The SEAI will only give you a grant if the person carrying out the work is registered with them.

What does your solicitor have to say on the matter?
