Wasn't sure where to put this, but in the end I decided to put it in the Unix forum. My logic being that while this will be a gaming machine, it will be a Linux machine first.

With Steam's arrival to Linux, I no longer have an excuse not to have a decent gaming machine. In fact I've already started playing CS on my laptop, but its not adequate for my needs.

I've built gaming machines before and but never with Linux as the host operating system. I'm just wondering, would I be crazy to go down the SLI route?

    The OS will be Fedora.

Seems to be supported for an age in the Linux drivers (since 2008 at least), though I've never tried it myself.

Ill post back with the results.

I love the idea of SLI, but it is an added complication.

sorry havent a clue about SLI but all linux setups of mine have been gaming rigs- no fecking about with WINE and the like, just pure triple A open sourcery; open arena,PRboom, assault cube, saurbrauten, nexuiz, smokin guns, red eclipse, tremulous etc.
if have got a decent overclocked procesor make the most of linuxes very modest emulation side.

woud recommend installing the desura client as well alongside steam and will find all the free usual suspects on there including the ones have mentioned above-its just a lot easier to source them that way and have them on a menu.
its rare to get a free triple A game that isnt a FPS,but if are into world of warcraft types and havent heard of it woud strongly recommend downloading savage 2/XR, XR didnt work on mine for some reason but 2 did.

I setup SLI with nvidia cards on a system sometime back in 2006/7 ... it worked but I rarely used it because it (SLI) only supported one monitor and I was using two for development.

My simple solution was just keep two x config files .. one for work & one to play doom3 and quake and their likes when I got urge. But SLI did work even back then!
