    Dublin comes in 9th

Hmmm, not sure about that Dublin is the 9th best city in the world for cycling - it's not bad, but I'm not sure it justifies a top 10 position.

EDIT:- No UK cities on it?

That's a silly list. As if we're better than places like Rotterdam.

They obviously don't want to list off the actual best cities, because that would be too Benelux-heavy...

When you add up the different factors we probably do quite well. However, this may only be a theoretical thumbs up...

    -The city is relatively flat.
-The weather is not too hot or too cold.
-The rain is frequent but not prolonged.
-The Dublin Bike scheme has been a huge success.
-If Dublin Corpo add up all the rubbishy little bits of track we have a good bit of cycle track.
-Daft rules regarding the selfsame cycle tracks have been removed.
-The Bike To Work scheme has been another big success.
-Trucks are banned from the city centre.
-Lots of cyclists around nowadays mean motorised traffic look out for you.

Actually, looking at it now, why aren't we further up the chart?!! :)

Who would like to have a go at the bad points?

They're probably keen to provide some encouragement and recognise the recent efforts.

As somebody used to say "Lots done, more to do"

    1. Advocacy, strong advocacy but with no political influence, 2
    2. Bike culture, fairly broad usage and acceptance, 3
    3. Facilities, we have some bike racks in some places 1
4 Bicycle infrastructure, some separated cycle traps in poor repair, 2
    5. Bike share program, DBS 4
    6. Gender split, improved balance , 3
    7. Modal split, I don't have the figures, but based on my workplace just under 10%, 2
8 increase in modal split since 2006, huge, 4
    9. safety perception, moderate levels of "you suicidal freak" from officialdom (ASAI and Flora), 2
    10. Politics, bike is not an unkown topic in local politics, 2
    11. Social acceptance. Some drivers despise us, some realise it's jealousy ;), 2
    12. Urban planning, Not much thought given to anything other than car use with a few token painted pavements, 2
    13. Traffic calming, 30kph zone, trucks excluded from city, 3

So I make that 50% before the bonus (20%) got handed out, allowing 10 percentage points for the DBS and increase in usage that brings us to 60% (and I'm being generous here)
