License numbers on bikes.

Just wondering do many/any races, with the exception of the Rás, require riders to have their number on their bike? To me it makes huge sense. I recently saw where a rider was disqualified because he had no number at the finish (removed his gilet, bearing his number during the race) and I also experienced the difficulty of identifying numbers on camera at the end of an event for placing purposes I have wondered why it is not a requirement at CI races. I took part in a charity cycle in Cork on Sat and we were all given printed numbers to put on the seat post here- and it seemed like a very simple idea. I'm sure this issue has been raised before and I am probably missing out on something very simple as to why this is not done. Enlighten me please!

Apologies for my ignorance on this but are these their CI license numbers or specific to the event?

The only races I've come across that require this are stage races, such as the Gorey 3 Day or the Rás or Rás na mBan. In these cases, you get a number for that race alone, i.e. you're not wearing your standard Cycling Ireland numbers.

I put a motion to C I AGM in 2011 looking to have colour co ordinated frame numbers issued as part of the licence package. The motion was ''kind of''defeated on what I think was a cost issue.Would be great help I believe. The double numbers now in place was the compromise.
