Driving a mk4 fiesta. Recently noticed a smelk of unburnt fuel from the exhaust after driving.

Majority of my trips are short (2-3 miles). Fuel consumption has risen recently. Passed nct with no emission problems.

I am thinking perhaps the lambda sensor, anybody have any other ideas or suggestions

Is it getting a chance to reach operating temperature?

I know that my car ignores the Lambda Sensor when the engine isn't warmed up, or you give t full throttle.

If its when she's just turned on its normal ecu run's the fuel to air mixture a little rich at first until the engine and cat are nice and warm. does it smell of fuel while your driving inside the car. Try a full service for fuel consumption aka plugs air and oil filter and maybe check tire pressure to.

No smell in the cabin, its due a service soon all right, but not overdue. The smell is still there even when the car gets to operating temp

Check for leaks from the manifold out. Do you smell fuel in the engine bay. If the air filter is all dirt the car can't breath right having a knock on effect on fuel ignition so if you can't establish a leak in fuel lines or exhaust try a service before going down the expensive route aka lam's and cats.
