Parking Fine Query

Today I received a parking fine in the post. Last week I parked outside Lidl in Thomas St during the no-parking time (Yea, I know, I was in a hurry and ran in and ran out). Just as I was getting into my car a motorbike cop pulled in behind me. I pulled out and noticed he was behind me as I was driving. He didn't pull me over and we went our separate ways. Today I get the fine in the post.

Just out of curiosity can you be given a parking fine without being given a ticket or pulled over? I know I'm lucky that I didn't get any points and its only €40 but is this common practice?

Is the parking fine issued by An Garda Siochana? The usual write them up and you never know until you get it in the post. They don't have to engage with you. They could have just noted the reg and the place, then wrote it up later.

Yes, I guess that's what happened. Just thought you had to physically be given the fine. Never mind, could have been worse!

€40 isn't bad I have to say. Some clampers are laughing to the banks at €150 a pop.
