    Hi,
I am looking at two laptops:
This Toshiba from LaptopsDirect which is €482 plus delivery.
and this HP form PC World (link is to Amazon so you can see the spec) which is €490 in the local shop.

The Toshiba appears to have a better processor clock speed, both are i5. Would this make much of a notable difference? using mainly for playing NetFlix/movies to the TV using HDMI out, also playing some low spec games (no FPS games, just things like Command and Conquer).
    HP has a bigger disk.

I am leaning twords the HP since I can buy it from my local shop but find it hard to believe that PC World are competitive with LaptopsDirect !..am I missing something?

    Thanks

My daughter had an HP Pavilion, The battery was rubbish, it overheated and the hard disk failed shortly after the warranty period.

I use an old-ish (2008) HP Pavillion DV5, it does get quite hot, but it's reliable.

Laptop batteries are use it or lose it. If the laptop is plugged in and charging for weeks straight, and never allowed to fully cycle, its not going to last very long. A battery that gets cycled a couple times a week, or even a few times a month, is going to last far longer.

I own 2 HP laptops. One was part of the Nvidia mass recall and was addressed at the time, going 6 years strong. The other is a relatively new ultrabook that I cant complain about, it does a good job.

The 2 models listed are fairly comporable. Toshiba P-series is decent, as is the HP G-series. But they are still both made of light material and not the most suitable thing for people like me who dont treat their gadgets like pieces of glass. A little more money to get into a HP DV-series, M-series, or a Toshiba L-series, would be money well spent for build quality and bell and whistle improvements.

What reason do you have for saying that?

    personal experience
a few years back i bought a netbook - everything worked fine
    last year bought a tablet
    arrived in bad condition
emailed them for a week or two eventually they collected it
emailed them again a few days later they said they hadnt collected it
eventually they said they had it and it was with their returns dept.
i kept emailing and they just kept saying that they will be in contact shortly
eventually i did a chargeback on my visa card to get my refund

long story short - they are an awful shower

theres exceptions to everything. Even I am known for mucking up the odd customer transaction or inventory exchange and it causes headaches. Doesn't mean its not the exception though. 1 out of 2 transactions isn't enough of a sample to judge IMO.
