My dell inspirion 6400 is 7 years old and 6 months ago I up graded form Vista basic to windows 7 ultimate.

My C: drive volume keeps decreasing, until I run defraggler and get it back. I also run ccleaner regularly.

My internal drive is partitioned into C: (62gig) and D:(10gig) and I mostly use the laptop for email and web browsing.

Is there something going on here and why is the space being used up. Any program that windows 7 is running that shouldn't.

    Any idea's/help appreciated.

Can you run Windirstat to see where most of the space is being consumed?

Have run windirstat. Not sure how to interpret the results.

From the right hand side, I can see that .dll files occupy 11gig, then windows with 9.7gig, then movies, 7gig and pictures 4gig.

I normally just drill down into the folders to try and determine where most of the space is being eaten. For example, if you expand out your Windows folder you should see WinSxS taking up a lot of space. You can clear up some of this by removing hotfix uninstallers and such but I think it also contains the uninstallers for any programs so it has a tendancy to keep growing (Just checked mine and it's back at 10GB!).

If you haven't done so already you can free up some space by disabling hibernation. Depending on how much RAM you have installed your page file might also be huge, you can maybe trim that down a bit, have it on the lower end of the recommendation rather than system managed, but don't delete it.
