    Dear Boardies,

the new range of 2013/14 AV receivers have started to come in from Denon to replace the really successful 12/13 range - we have had the 1st three through already and we already have a favourite!

The entry level is the Denon AVRX500 - really easy to use with 5.1 and 75Watts (into 8 Ohms) per channel - this is the ideal unit for the AV beginner or if you just want a simple to use AVR without having to go to night school to use it!

The whole essence of the X500 is simplicity and Sound quality - the Graphic User interface (GUI) is really simple and the rear panel is colour coded to assist with connections - it even comes with a sheet of stickers to use to label your leads for future plugging & unplugging!

Have a look at the full features here:

Next up is the £349.95 / €389.99 AVRX1000 - and it does represent a significant step up in features and performance.

Introducing DLNA Networking and Airplay - these are just the first of a ramp of features and technologies that the AVRX1000 scores over the 500,  Audyssey Multi EQ - XT assists in ensuring that the AVRX1000 tailors it's sound to match your room acoustic.

    Main Features:
    DLNA 1.5 Certified
    Apple Airplay
Spotify / Last FM streaming services ( depending on country)
    Windows 8 compatible
Flac- HD High resolution Audio playback
    Internet radio
    5 HDMI inputs

Simple front panel design - 2 knobs!

Denon get serious with their third (and our current favourite £499 AVR) The AVRX1000 - this is the focus on which the whole first part of the range is based around.

Far more power than the 500 & 1000 and featuring 4K video capability - however the primary focus of the x2000 is Audio quality.

The X2000 has been extensively auditioned and sound tuned in the UK to ensure that it sounds neutral and does not have a brightness frequently associated with far eastern designed AV Receivers at this price level - the main focus was to ensure that it sounded as close to a similarly priced Stereo amplifier - then they strapped on the AV goodies - and to be fair - I think they have done a good job - if you listen to the X2000 it sounds fast and rich and the bass extension even without the active sub is excellent when used in stereo mode with a decent pair of Stereo speakers (we used the Monitor Audio RX6).

However - it is an AVR after all so it has all the essential - features include 7.1 and 4K video capability and zone 2 capability.

A great sounding AVR and at a great deal for Boardies.
