Connecting UPC HD Box CAT5

    Hi everyone

I recently got an electrician in to move a few sockets and tv points. He installed 2 CAT 5 sockets beside the coaxial on the same plate on the wall, he said that this would be handy for the UPC box.
My question is can I connect to the TV via the CAT 5 port at the back of the UPC box to the CAT 5 ports in the wall and then finally into the tv using say a CAT 5 HDMI splitter?

Hope this makes sense, any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

No. The cat5 port on the UPC box is disabled.

    Why is it disabled.

Rather than being disabled its simply not a function. UPC will add en extra point for you.

You'd sparks should have run several co-axials to a central point.

Or if the TV is above a fireplace or somewhere he should have ran a HDMI between the box and TV

The OP is mixing up two technologies. Cat 5 is for networking but sometimes you can use a hdmi -> cat5 and cat5->hdmi to go over longer distances (example http://www.tvtrade.ie/hdmi-extender-over-cat5.html ) but this doesn't use the Cat5 port (called an ethernet port) on the back of the Horizon box.

No device outputs Video signal out an ethernet port in the sense the OP is asking.

The Cat 5/Ethernet ports work fine and the Horizon box has a Docsis 3 cablemodem and the ports are gigabit ports. The USB and e-sata ports are disabled ( source Horizon thread and user manual on Swiss site http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/content/dam/www-upc-cablecom-ch/Support/manuals/en/hrz/upc-horizon-user-manual.pdf )
