Hello everyone. I am going to the mart tomorrow with a couple of weanlings but I noticed yesterday that one of them has lost a tag. Will I be able to sell her with 1 tag missing? I will ring them later but was looking for feedback here first.

I see plenty cattle going through marts with one tag and horns. If the department men were there they would have something to say about it.

Give the mart a ring. I know of a couple of marts here that will just tell you to book the cattle in a bit later when the dept inspector has left.

Buyers could be put off, bother of tagging when bought, and dept will turn the back if spotted

If it makes people like me become more compliant with rules it might be no harm if they do!

Rightly so if more marts did this they would have to retag instead of handing the problem over to the buyer.

Not doing cattle for lice over the winter doesn't help either.

I think, when there is a monopoly in the supply of any product, the consumer is going to come out second best ALL the time.
Mullinahone have had this contract ALL to themselves since the start of this system , racket.
Poor quality tags. Pathetic website, where you cannot order online, properly.
Print off oder forms, fill in with biro, post it back or fax it. If you needed two tags for the same animal, you have to fill in the number twice on the form:eek:
You cant just fill the qty 2 in a box.
Then the charge a stupid price for post and packaging:mad:

Why the foooook, can the deptnot introduce competition into this market?

Bad abvice, you would have the bother of tagging the animal with a blank tag that would surely arouse the suspicion of the mart people dept etc

i think the idea was that it would be so dirty that anyone looking would only be able to see a bare outline of a yellow tag

nip down to gud agri shop get a yellow blank tag same size as proper tag cover it in gud dose of cow sh#t tag d animal looks d part in d ring not half as bad as no tag and no nice guy from department wil be arsed to try clean it to see wat d story is with it :)
Do you get many department inspections? :D
What happens the next guy that buys it? He'll ring the dept and ask what he should do with this blank tag. They'll ask for the tag number and see that the animal went through your herd last. Or the animal goes straight to slaughter and is hanging up with only a blank tag. Time for an inspection.
    I bit of cop-on wouldn't go astray.
